Dr. Richard
Ferrara was born in Morgantown, West Virginia; a friendly, rural, slightly
southern community with traditional patriotic American values. Growing
up in this environment contributed to his love of the banjo and the
popular music of his times. The songs in his albums reflect upon his
background and personality.
Doc Ferrara
started playing banjo at the age of 33 when he was given a banjo lesson
by Eddie Peabody, a famous banjoist who became his friend.
During his
years of medical practice in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, the banjo was
his constant companion. It was brought along on all vacations with his
wife and five children. He began recording banjo music as a gift to
his grandchildren, relatives and friends. It has now become a happy
avocation in his retirement from the practice of dermatology.
